Requirements For Certification
Training
The lecture/workshop training requirements for certification for the three specializations are similar. The application, small group practice sessions, clinical case presentations and supervision components vary according to the specialty. All candidates are required to complete a minimum of 72 hours of solution-focused training covering the assumptions, techniques, and strategies of the solution-focused model.
The candidates for the CSFC (coach) designation are required to complete a minimum 12 hours of training specifically devoted to coaching topics. Those candidates with previous coach training may be eligible for exemption from the 12 hour coach workshop.
Supervision
The final requirement for certification is the supervision component which is conducted by an Associate Examiner or Approved Supervisor selected by the candidate. Both the therapist (CSFT) and coach (CSFC) designation require a minimum of 6 one hour supervision periods, or equivalent amount of time if conducted in a small group format. The practitioner (CSFP) supervision requirement generally involves less time and is dependent upon the candidate’s solution-building skill development. For a list of approved courses click here.
